		<description><![CDATA[ A 25-year-old San Francisco woman was killed while crossing the with an armful of groceries and was hit by a pickup truck. Suzanne Monacowas walking west across Masonic Avenue near Euclid Avenue in the Laurel Heights neighborhood around 5:20 p.m. when a driver heading south on Masonic struck her, relatives and authorities said. Monaco, who had just left a grocery store, was not in the crosswalk when she was hit, police said. She died 30 minutes later at San Francisco General Hospital. The man driving the Toyota pickup remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, said police spokesman Sgt. Daryl Fong. His name was not released, and he has not been arrested. 		<description><![CDATA[In May 28, 2011 a 14 year-old boy in Riverhead, N.Y. suffered severe third-degree burns from a fire pot that exploded as he poured fuel into it.  Today he still struggles to recover. In June, Brent Miller, a 51-year-old property manager from Kissimmee, Florida, died after a 33-day hospitalization. Miller was pouring fuel into a fire pot, when it exploded, setting Miller, his wife, plants and other objects on the lanai aflame.  Scenarios such as these have prompted the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to regulate so-called fire pots, and the alcohol-based gel that fuels them. Fire pots are portable, decorative “lighting accents,” used both indoors and out. According to the CPSC, firepots were introduced into the marketplace in 2010, with 2.5 million units sold since then. 		<description><![CDATA[Two people were airlifted to area hospitals after a head-on collision in Contra Costa County this morning, according to the  California Highway Patrol. The collision was reported at 5:24 a.m. Thursday on Sellers Avenue south of Sunset Road, according to the CHP. The Contra Costa Fire District reports two people were taken by helicopter to the hospital. Another occupant of one of the vehicles may also have been injured. While the injuries for at least two of the motorists were considered major, all are expected to survive, the CHP said. The street was blocked for about an hour before authorities cleared the scene. 		<description><![CDATA[A 91-year-old Pleasant Hill woman, Rita Pricco, was killed after her car collided with another vehicle and struck a light pole Wednesday afternoon, authorities said. Pricco was driving a Hyundai Elantra near Taylor Boulevard and Ruth Drive in Pleasant Hill when she collided with a Acura sedan just before 2 p.m., according to Pleasant Hill police. Pricco&#8217;s car veered off and hit a light pole at the intersection. Pricco was taken to the hospital but died from her injuries later that afternoon, police said. A police news release did not mention any injury for the 19-year-old Pleasant Hill woman driving the Acura. The fatal collision remains under investigation. 		<description><![CDATA[An Oakley teenage was behind the wheel of the truck involved in Saturday&#8217;s early morning collision that killed another local teen and sent two women to the hospital. Brentwood police confirmed Tuesday that an 18-year-old was behind the wheel of the pickup truck that ran a red light at Walnut Boulevard and Balfour Road and was broadsided by a car. As of yet no charges have been filed. The impact overturned the truck, which was carrying four other people ranging in age from 15 to 20, said Sgt. Tim Herbert. Two of the passengers are from Oakley, one lives in Discovery Bay and one is a Brentwood resident. A former Freedom High School freshman Ashley Malone, 15-years-old,  was pinned under the truck. 		<description><![CDATA[The Manhattan Group LLC, of Minneapolis, Minn., today announced a voluntary recall of the Whoozit® Starry Time Rattle. The Whoozit® Starry Time baby rattles are plastic rattles that feature three colored (orange, aqua blue and purple) stars stacked front to back between two clear spheres on a flexible stem. The rattle measures about 5-1/2-inches long. Each clear ball, located at the end of the rattle, measures 1-3/4 inches in diameter. The clear rattles contain small multi-colored beads and a white plastic disc featuring a blue smiling character face inside. The name of the product is printed on the hang tag. The clear spheres on each end of the rattle can break, releasing small parts, posing a choking hazard to small children. The Manhattan Group has received two reports of rattles breaking. 		<description><![CDATA[A 55-year-old San Mateo resident was killed last Friday evening after trying to move a Pacific Gas and Electric Co. power line that had snapped and fallen across a parked car according to a PG&#38;E spokesman said. Enrique Tello was injured at 6:30 p.m. on South Norfolk Street near Kehoe Avenue. He was taken from the scene to Stanford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said San Mateo police Sgt. 		<description><![CDATA[A 27-year-old man from San Bruno was killed early Saturday morning when he crashed his motorcycle on Highway 101 in San Francisco, according to the California Highway Patrol. The accident occurred just after 1 a.m. when an as yet unidentified man crashed a Suzuki sport bike while traveling south toward the transition to eastbound Interstate 80. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The CHP is investigating the cause of the crash, which temporarily shut down Highway 101 between Octavia Boulevard and Van Ness Avenue.
