An elderly female driver suffered only minor injuries when her vehicle was struck by a Capitol Corridor train in the Decoto district  of Union City this morning, according to an Alameda County Fire Department spokesperson. The accident which occurred at around 7:50 a.m., happened at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and H Street, spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said. The woman reported minor pain at the scene and was taken to a hospital as a precaution, Knowles said. None of the 102 passengers on southbound Train No. 523 reported any injuries and they were moved to another train, Capitol Corridor spokeswoman Luna Salaver said. Service from Sacramento to San Jose was delayed more than an hour as a result of the collision. A man was struck and killed by a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) light rail train Monday evening in north San Jose, according to police. The collision was reported at 11:43 p.m. at North First Street and East Trimble Avenue, according to Officer Jose Garcia, a police spokesman. An Amtrak train in San Jose fatally struck a man this morning, according to the San Jose Fire Department. Fire Capt. Mary Gutierrez said the man was crossing the tracks at Monterey Highway and Capitol Expressway about 10:50 a.m., when the fire department got the call. The train was heading to Los Angeles. 12th fatality this year for Caltrain

A woman was struck and killed this morning by Caltrain in Burlingame which triggered significant delays in service.  this morning, and the response is delaying service, authorities said. The collision happened at about 10 a.m. when the woman was hit by a southbound train south of Trousdale Drive near the Broadway station, said Caltrain spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew. The cause of today’s accident which is the 12th fatality on Caltrain property this year, is still under investigation. The woman’s name has not yet been released pending notification. Train service resumed at 12:25 p.m., but commuters should expect delays of up to 50 minutes, Bartholomew said. A Caltrain struck and killed a man on the tracks in Sunnyvale on Tuesday evening during heavy commute time, according to the commuter line. This marks the fifth death since June 1, 2011. A southbound commuter train hit the man at the Lawrence station in Sunnyvale at 6:45 p.m., Caltrain officials said. The Lawrence Station was not a scheduled stop for this train. The man’s name and age were not immediately available pending the investigation and notification of relatives. Investigators are still working to determine whether the death was a suicide or accident. The death significantly delayed trains as crews worked to reopen the tracks.
