
Adopting a child should be a rewarding challenge, and for Mamie and Mark Johnson, that’s exactly what they enjoyed as they adopted 5 children and created a happy and cohesive family. But when Mamie and Mark agreed to adopt their sixth, their rewards quickly changed to frustration and anger as their new child proved to be disruptive, destructive, and dangerous.
The Johnsons did nothing to cause their only negative experience with adoption. They’re an amazing couple, and they’re strong advocates for adopting children from difficult backgrounds, which is exactly what they’ve done. All of the Johnsons’ adoptive children were born addicted, and all of them spent the first weeks of their lives going through withdrawal. Despite those horrible circumstances, the Johnsons were able to build a strong and loving family. (more…)

A new president should bring hope for a better economic future, but the Dow Jones average has been dropping steadily since the day after Barack Obama’s election in November. On November 5, a day when the excitement of a new administration coming to Washington should have given the market a big boost, the average fell from 9,616 to 9,139. On inauguration day, January 20, the Dow took a dive from 8,279 to 7,949. From Monday, February 17, the first day the markets were open after the passage of the stimulus package, through the closing bell on March 4, the Dow fell from 7845 to 6875. (more…)

Stave off a massive recession and crippling unemployment by enacting 100% write-offs for all capital goods purchased in 2009: cars, trucks, machinery, tools, etc., not just “equipment.”
Buy a car and write it off in 2009. Detroit will love it. Buy anything and manufacturers across America will love it.

Trust-busting president Teddy Roosevelt railed against the fat cats of his time. So did Louisiana Governor and U.S. Senator Huey Long, as flawed as he was. We need people like that in office today, because the fat cats are still fat and getting fatter – often at the expense of the handicapped, the mentally retarded, children and others who are dispossessed. Some will argue there is a big difference between the totalitarian government of the Chinese and the current Bush Administration.
The current Bush administration is decidedly authoritarian and acts very much like the Chinese government in many ways.
The Chinese torture political prisoners; the Bush Administration tortures political prisoners.

For those of us who cherish civil liberties, the last thing we need is Sen. John McCain in the Oval Office. What many people don’t think about when pulling the lever in the voting booth is that the president appoints judges that control their lives – not only appointments to the U.S. Supreme Court, but up and down the federal judiciary.
